Reishi mushrooms have a reputation that is legendary, and are said to enhance health, promote longevity and increase wisdom and happiness. These mushrooms are very rare. From a group of 10,000 aged trees, only two or three can grow Reishi mushrooms. These mushrooms are known as the “King of Herbs” in Chinese medicine.
Reishi Tea – Break down the dried reishi mushroom in smaller pieces which are better for hot water extraction. Use about 4 – 5 cups of water for every 3 – 5 grams of reishi. Bring the water to a boil in a stainless steel or ceramic pot. Don’t use aluminum. Add the broken down mushroom pieces and Reduce the heat until the mixture is simmering, not boiling. Let it simmer for 2 hours. Remove from the heat, strain, and set aside. Let the liquid cool for a little and it will be ready to drink.
How to Store – It is very important that dried mushrooms are stored properly to insure long term and maximum freshness. Place the mushrooms into either a plastic or glass container with a tight fitting lid. Our first recommendation, though, is freezing or storing in a refrigerator or freezer. Place the dried mushrooms in a clean, tight sealing freezer bag. The reason for maximum cold storage is because heat and moisture are the greatest enemies. The mushrooms should keep well for six months to a year.
